We just put the finishing touches on this Cervelo Aspero for local legend and gravel crusher, Robert Cummings. Thanks to SRAM’s AXS wireless shifting technology Robert can easily change out their drivetrain from a 27.5″ wide-range (pictured above) to a 700c narrow-range (below) in minutes!
The “brains” of SRAM’s AXS technology lives in the rear derailleur, and there are no wires running to any other parts or controls. That means that on race day they can swap out one wheelset/derailleur combo, put the correct pre-sized chain on (thanks to SRAM quicklinks), pair their shifter and they’re ready to rock.
No changing shifters, chainring, or running wires or cables.
Don’t worry if all that scrambled your brain…
In the “27.5 Mode” the bike uses HiFi‘s new Session 25 27.5″ carbon rim with a 1.9″ Panaracer Gravel King. This is spun-up with a SRAM Eagle 10-50 cassette, and it’s all tied together with the SRAM XO-1 AXS Eagle rear derailleur.
Changing the setup over to “700c Mode” includes a set of HiFi 700c EP38 Carbon rims, 38c Panaracer Gravel King tires, a SRAM 10-33 cassette, and a SRAM Force AXS rear derailleur.
Taking it several steps further SRAM has a handy app that allows you to store and adjust different profiles for different bikes, check for firmware updates, and toggle componentry. Don’t want to use the app? No worries, everything can be paired on the bike, sans-phone! It’s also quick and easy to swap out and recharge batteries.
It might be a lot to sort through, but we’re here to help. Stop on by and let us know if you’re interested in checking out SRAM’s AXS system.
In the meantime you can expect to see Robert riding with a high level of stoke at this year’s Crusher in the Tushar, and again riding for Team S&M CX this cyclocross season!
