With our hugely expanded confines we’ve been able to indulge and expand some sectors that at the old shop were largely nonexistent due to spatial restraints. Our new and improved mountain bike section is home to some of the bikes that we’re most excited about. To put it succinctly, Giant’s Trance X 29er has been receiving a lot of our attention.
The Trance X 29er is part of a growing family of longer travel, fully capable 29″ full-suspension bikes, built to excel in any situation presented. The bike was developed in conjunction with Bend local and mega-fast guy, Adam Craig, who happened to ride the prototype of this bike to a championship at this year’s US Super-D Championship.
I asked our guy Peter, who has spent quite a few hours riding and mulling over this bike, what he thinks makes the Giant Trance X 29er 0 stand out from the pack. He noted first the weight – and the fact that a stock 27-28lb 5″ travel 29″ bike is a bit of an anomaly. He also described the “Maestro” rear-suspension system as a very active and linear design, that has stood the test of time. A slack head tube angle, relatively low bottom bracket, short chain stays, and evenly distributed weight gives the bike a snappy yet balanced feel. And the choice Shimano Deore XT 2×10-spd group (shiny diamonds!), combined with a tubeless-ready Giant wheelset (utlizing DT Swiss hub internals), and a remote-controlled dropper post make this bike instantly shreddable.
