The migration towards disc brakes for cyclocross bikes is upon us, yet the available bike offerings are still relatively few and far between.  Discs just make sense for cross with better power and response than rim brakes, and these inequalities are only amplified when the conditions turn for the worse.  On top of that, replacing a worn rotor is cheaper and easier than replacing a worn-out rim, and occurs less frequently.

After a good amount of testing we decided to bring Foundry Cycles into the shop.  Based out of Bloomington, Minnesota, Foundry’s mission is to provide “purpose built high-performance carbon bicycles”.  The Auger is certainly a success in this regard, melding the stiffness and comfort of carbon fiber with the effectiveness of disc brakes, yielding an extremely utilitarian off and on-road machine.  The Auger would be just as good a cyclocross race bike, as a fat-tired road and gravel steed.  The frame and fork are designed with eyelets for fenders, making the bike an excellent all year ride.
