From the moment Kona leaked info and spy photos of their “Rove” prototype, we were totally hooked. The Rove with it’s full cromoly frame and fork, disk brakes, and clearance to fit fat tires, had our full attention.
We had the pleasure of riding this bike while up in Bellingham for the 2013 Kona Blast, and we’re quickly sold on the new design. The bike rolls in such an agile yet predictable way that it would easily feel as comfortable railing fast gravel descents, as it would fully loaded on a longer tour. Kona has a history of making bikes that excel at a wide range of disciplines, and the Rove is certainly a new chapter in this tradition.
As stated above, the Rove is built with a butted cromoly tubeset, and is set up for Hayes mechanical disc brakes and 140mm rotors. A Sram Apex group rounds out the build with a compact 36/46t in the front, and an 11-32 10-spd cogset in the rear, making for a superbly versatile gearing range. The frame clearances are such that you can fit a 45c tire without fenders, and the frame is designed with eyelets front and rear for fenders and racks, with low rider mounts on the fork for longer tours.
