In normal times and, we believe, most bike shops would be hard-pressed to call a commuter bike “Evil”. But this particular build is no run-of-the-mill commuter. Sure, it’s branded “Evil” but in an all-black setup, and sub 20 lbs (19 lbs, 14oz, minus the light and seat bag) it’s a very sinister bike indeed!
This is Patrick’s Evil “Chamois Hagar” bike built out to full weight-weenie spec. and my-oh-my does it fly. Evil designed this bike to be a very sassy drop-bar gravel bike. Their website for this frameset features some rather liberal use of the word “Shred”, but Evil has definitely been known for producing more than a few bikes that very much shred. Patrick knew it was just a carbon Jones bar and some buddy flaps away from being his latest dream build.
In Patrick’s own words:
“This is my Ultralight Adventure Hybrid. I’ve always struggled to find a comfortable fit with drop bars. After 25 years of numb hands I finally gave up on them. I built this up as an all around bike with a leaning toward longer rides.”

I recommend a smaller chain ring for the crankset. Downhills are meant to be coasted on commuter bikes–pedaling downhill is just trying too hard!
Other than that, an inspirational build. Mix in just a hair of neon color to really set off the matte black. The SCR bottle is a good start.
