All, I’m pleased to announce that the classic and epic Bear Springs Trap XC is ON for this spring! Sunday May 12 at 11am!

The snow situation is the best it’s been in years, and the weather looks great from here forward. Even better, the trails that were closed due to multiple fires since 2020 are now open — and some have been re-built and restored. This includes the Upper Rim Rock Trail, too. 🙂

Weather for race weekend looks GREAT. Expect dry conditions and a high in the 70s. Best bet is to check the Pine Grove, OR forecast, but the venue is a zone all its own! (Do NOT look at Gov’t Camp weather — it’s irrelevant.)

Online pre-registration opened Monday 4/29 and remains open until 5pm on May 11th. Cost is $50 except for Juniors, which is $20. (Add $10 for day-of, which is cash or check-only and closes at 10am.) See categories and more course information below.

Registration link is here. A valid OBRA annual or day license is required.

This year we’ll have two race courses: the “Epic XC” long course and the “Big XC” standard course (GPS Files for BOTH courses are here! pick the correct one).

  • The Epic XC race is ~27 miles and nearly identical to the Elite / Cat 1 course of 2019. The Epic XC race starts at 10am.
  • The Big CX race is ~20 miles and the same as the Sport / Cat 2 course of many former races. The Big XC is just after at 10:32am.

Last, we’ll offer a non-competitive category this year.

  • The “Fun Ride” ~ Riders can follow the Epic XC or just the Big XC. (But they will skip the 4 mile start loop that both courses share.) The Fun Ride starts at 10:02am.

As a reminder, the Epic XC course includes the extra “Keeps Mill” and “Rim Rock” loops. Each loop is a simple “polyp” that departs from and then re-enters the Big XC course, at its respective location.

Categories will be the same for “Open” and “Women” in the Epic XC race and Big XC race: 15-18; 19-39; 40-49; 50-59; & 60+. Custom medals by Maple XO for top-3 in each category.

The top-overall finishers for each race will be awarded medals with cash and-or prizes.

Please note that our permit does NOT allow for e-bikes, this year.

It’s been a real effort to resurrect this event! I’m thankful for your interest, patience, and understanding. -Erik
